Info about what the fair board does?

Our fair date is set for September 17–20, 2026, and we are already actively planning to ensure the 2026 Port Hope Fair is another standout community event. The Port Hope Fair Board plays a central role in this work, providing leadership, direction, and oversight for the Society.

The Board governs the organization through monthly meetings, strategic planning, and decision-making that help guide the vision and operation of the annual fair. From long-term planning to hands-on support, the Board helps steer every aspect of the Fair’s success and ensures we continue to promote agriculture, community, and education year after year.

What we're looking for in board & associate candidates

We are seeking enthusiastic and committed individuals who may be interested in stepping into meaningful leadership roles within our organization. Whether you’re considering getting more involved yourself or know a friend, family member, or colleague who would be a great fit, we encourage you to explore these opportunities.

Positions on our Board of Directors and as Associate Directors offer the chance to help shape the future of our society, deepen community engagement, build valuable skills, and contribute in a truly impactful way.

We’re looking for:

  • Volunteers passionate about agriculture, community involvement, education, or event organization
  • Individuals who can commit time to attend occasional meetings and take on tasks such as event planning, booth coordination, volunteer recruitment, sponsorship outreach, or communications/social media
  • People who want to grow, learn, lead, and make a difference — these roles are excellent stepping stones toward future Board service
  • Those interested in section-planning for the fair or supporting educational outreach initiatives

A summary of responsibilities

Board of Director responsibilities include:

  • Attend regular monthly meetings (currently held the 2nd Wednesday of each month at 7:00 pm at the fairgrounds)
  •  Participate in planning, budgeting, and oversight of the Fair and related programs
  • Participate in committees or overseeing specific sections/events of the fair
  • Commit to being an engaged, active member — bringing ideas, supporting sub-committees or initiatives, and collaborating with fellow Board and Associate Directors.

Associate Directors Responsibilities:

  • This role is slightly less formal than a Director, but equally valued. Our Associate Directors work alongside the Board, often focusing on specific project areas, helping committees, initiatives, or sections of the Fair.
