A huge thank you to everyone involved with the 186th Port Hope Fair.  The fair would not be a success without the dedication and countless hours logged by amazing volunteers.  The fair is a very complex event with many moving parts, and it truly takes an army of volunteers to pull off a successful fair.

The fair is completely volunteer run by a volunteer Board of Directors, and we rely on the community, as well as the contractors we hire for several services, to help us.

To all the people who attended, thank you for supporting this year’s fair.  We hope that your experience was a positive one and that at least one of our events, demonstrations or activities could bring a smile to your face.  We are very glad that we could celebrate our 186th fair with you.

If you would like to become involved with the Port Hope & District Agricultural Society please get in touch with us by phone (905) 396-FAIR (3247) or by email to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

We look forward to seeing you next year!

Thank you from the 2017 Board of Directors.

Fair needs helping hands

 Midway overview

PORT HOPE - The Port Hope Fair board is looking for volunteers, not just for the fall fair itself.

“We are looking for volunteers to enjoy and support a variety of events during the year,” Fair President Connie Martinell stated in a media release.

“Opportunities include volunteers to help during the fair on the gates, with the animal shows, and with the exhibits.

“There are many jobs to suit a variety of interests and how much time you can contribute.”

In addition to the September fair weekend, she said, “there are opportunities during the year,” she said.

“We enter a float in the Canada Day and Christmas parades, and we welcome fun-loving volunteers to help decorate and ride along.”  (In 2017 there will be a demo derby on Sun 02Jul to help celebrate Canada’s 150th birthday.)

Working as a volunteer is also a way for students to accumulate the volunteer hours they need.

“The Society’s purpose is to encourage awareness of agriculture and to promote improvements in the quality of life of people living in the agricultural community. The fair promotes conservation of natural resources and supports activities that enrich the rural lifestyle. It is also a great deal of fun!”

Hundreds of volunteers are needed.

President's Message

Canada celebrates 150 years of Confederation in 2017. The Port Hope Fair marks its 186th anniversary. This year’s theme is Canada Eh? A lighthearted look at Canada 150. Red and white will be seen throughout the grounds and the exhibits.

Anyone can become part of this wonderful event. Become an exhibitor or volunteer or both?  Contact any of the directors or the section heads to see how you can participate. Have your own business? Why not become a vendor? Strut your stuff and enter the Talent Show or coach a young person. Help market the Fair by creating an outdoor display. Bring the whole family.

Enjoy the entertainment on the Outdoor Stage Friday evening and all day Saturday and Sunday. Examine the exhibits in the Town Park Recreation Centre and the Fall Fair Centre. Look for new yellow walls!

The South Field will be exceptional. Watch the Port Hope Hunter/Jumper Show on Saturday and the Upper Canada District Canadian Horse Breeders Show on Sunday. Saturday is Dairy Cattle Day. On Sunday, we anticipate 5 classes of Beef Cattle. The Children’s Pet Show is on Sunday;  Fido will look great in red and white.

Port Hope & District Agricultural Society – The Fair Board – thanks all volunteers, sponsors, community groups, the Municipality of Port Hope, exhibitors and attendees. The Board is delighted to announce that Carter Shows will again present the Midway.  Remember to purchase an advance ticket for daily unlimited rides. See the reminder below.

Highlight September 15, 16, 17, 2017 in red on your calendar. Come and be part of the Canada 150 edition of the Port Hope Fair.
