President's Message

This year marks the 185th anniversary of the Port Hope Fair.

In 1831 leaders in this community had the vision to form an agricultural society to provide a forum for fellowship; the exchange of information, seed and livestock, and an annual or semi-annual market known as a fair. Over the years, this fair grew, and was enhanced by farm and domestic competitions and entertainment. With continued strong leadership, the local fair became the Port Hope Fair, the oldest Fair in Central Ontario and the fourth oldest Fair in the Province.

Volunteers spend countless hours each year planning and preparing a wide array of events and activities for the Fair. Much about the 185th anniversary Fair is new; much is traditional. The South Field will be better than ever. See the horses, cattle, sheep, goats, poultry, petting zoo and farm equipment. Enjoy a new feature - the President's Choice Super Dogs.

We have a new midway partner, Carter Shows.  New to Friday evening is a local Truck & Tractor Pull while the traditional Demo Derby will entertain you on Saturday evening. Road to the Royal is a cooking competition featuring local chefs that you won't want to miss.

The Port Hope & District Agricultural Society - The Fair Board - is very grateful for the support provided by volunteers, sponsors, community groups, the Municipality of Port Hope, and all our exhibitors and attendees. You are an important part of this continuing tradition.

Be sure to mark September 16, 17, 18, 2016 on your calendar. Come and be part of our 185th celebration - 185 Years: The Tradition continues. We look forward to seeing you at the Fair.

Connie Martinell
President

The 185th Port Hope Fair will be centre stage at the Town Agricultural Park on September 16th, 17th, and 18th.
