A Community Harvest
An Agricultural Education Program for Grade Three Students

Agriculture in Northumberland County is an agricultural education initiative of the Port Hope and District Agricultural Society. Both our first program offered in 2007 and our second in 2008 were recognized for their excellence by the Ontario Agri-Food Education Inc.
On Friday September 18th prior to the opening of the Fair, we will offer Agriculture in Northumberland County - A Community Harvest. A Community Harvest is the theme for this year's Port Hope Fair. This year's event is generously sponsored by TD Canada Trust and by Rosemary Davis in memory of Niel Hannah.
Your students will participate in eight session where they will see, hear and do. They will move from station to station in groups of approximately twenty and will be escorted by our volunteers in addition to their teachers and parent-volunteers. Each leader-volunteer will carry hand sanitizer for the children to clean their hands after touching the animals. In addition, there is convenient access to a hand wash station and portable toilets.

Each session will include a then and now element.
All will come together at the end of the morning to watch as Tim Cook gives a Heavy Horse demonstration complete with show harness, braiding and wagon.
All students will create a special name tag and be given a special Port Hope Fair ribbon. Information given out by any of the session leaders will be given to the teacher for distribution following the event. A small carton of milk (Cobourg City Dairy) and an apple will provide a snack for each student.
Preparatory resource material will be provided to all participating schools and teachers on the internet (porthopefair.com) and a resource binder will be prepared for each participating school Parking is available for buses and cars.
