Agriculture in Northumberland County - Now and Then is an agricultural education initiative of the Port Hope and District Agricultural Society. We are excited about it and hope that you are as well. Our first program which was offered in 2007 was enthusiastically received by students, staff and volunteers. On Friday September 16th prior to the opening of the Fair, we will offer our 5th version of Agriculture in Northumberland County - Now and Then!.

Celebrating 180 Years! is the theme for this year's Port Hope Fair. This Agricultural Education event is generously sponsored by TD Canada Trust and by Rosemary Davis in memory of Niel Hannah.

We will provide eight opportunities for your students to see, hear and do. They will move from station to station in groups of twenty and will be escorted by our volunteers in addition to their teachers and parent-volunteers. Each leader-volunteer will carry a supply of wet wipes for the children. In addition, there is convenient access to a hand wash station and portable toilets.

Topics and presenters will include

Corn Mary Ann Found and Gary Meadows
Beef Jessica Morton
Bees and Honey Paul Watson
Dairy Cattle Janelle Kellogg
Eggs Eggmobile
Now and Then Maze Kathy Dennis
Goats Ross Parlette
Pigs Pig-mobile

A horse-shoeing demonstration will be given to the entire group.

Information provided by any of the session leaders will be given to the teacher for distribution following the event. A small carton of milk (Cobourg City Dairy) and an apple will provide a snack for each student.

Resource material will be provided to all participating schools and teachers. It will also be posted on our website (porthopefair.com) Parking is available for buses and cars.
